Fotona laser is a non – invasive treatment which removes many types of vascular lesions, including spider veins, venous lakes and angiomas, hemangiomas, and vascular malformations such as port-wine, treating both face and body suitable for both male and female patients.


How this treatment works is, energy is produced from the laser which penetrates below the surface of the skin to target the vascular lesions. The energy from the laser is absorbed by the blood in the vein, which is converted into heat, and the vein walls are subsequently destroyed this process is known as photothermolysis. Short burst of energy is administered to avoid harming the skin. The wave length used Nd YAG also targets the underlying vascular feeding system ensuring optimal results. Minimal discomfort is felt during the procedure.



Although the Fotona Vascular treatment is safe to perform there are however a few contraindications that may prevent patients from having treatment include:

  • Sun exposure/artificial tanning
  • Not suitable for darker skin type
  • Pregnancy
  • Radiotherapy, chemotherapy
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes
  • Lupus o other diseases
  • Hormonal disorders
  • Any active inflammatory skin conditions
  • Keloid scarring
  • Internal defibrillator or pacemaker
  • Age restriction 18+
  • Clotting


Is the procedure painful?
As mentioned before there will be minimal discomfort due to the revolutionary cooling tip. However, you may feel a slight tingling sensation as the laser fires.


What to expect after the procedure and is there any downtime?
After your procedure, erythema may be present and occasionally bruised this will subside. You may also feel a slight bump on the skin, which will disappear within a few hours. No down time is required with this procedure but it is important to follow the aftercare provided by your practitioner.

Post procedure no downtime is required; you may notice some swelling or slight bruising this is temporary will fade within a few hours. It is important to follow after care provided by your practitioner to achieve optimal results from your treatments:

  • Avoid any heat treatments such as hot baths/showers/steam/sauna in area treated for minimum 48 hours
  • Avoid any exercise for 48 hours
  • Avoid touching the area or scratching
  • Keep area hydrated
  • Avoid tight clothing
  • Avoid direct sun on treated area
  • Must apply minimum factor 30 sun cream
  • Avoid any sunbeds or fake tanning products (until treatment/sessions are completed)
  • Avoid any perfumed products on treated are for 48hours
  • No Alcohol for 24 hours
  • If area is swollen apply aloe Vera
  • No Aspirin to be taken for minimum 5 days before and after treatment


How many treatments are needed?
To achieve optimal desired results a course of 3 treatments is recommended, 1 session every 4-6 weeks. However, depending on the lesions extra sessions may be required which will be discussed curing your consultation.

How long does it take before you see results?
Results are not immediate and will vary from person to person. The vessels under the surface of the skin will change from dark blue to light red then eventually disappear within 2-6 weeks
