Lifting treatments that are using special threads have been executed for several years. On the market appeared different kind of threads: Silhouette, Aptos and Happy Lift. The latest product used in such treatments is called a PDO thread. In contrast to the previously used threads, PDO thread does not have hooks or tapers that rise tissue. Lifting effect is achieved by a special thread weave and polydioxanone which has properties that stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin. It is the substance from which threads are made of.
The PDO threads were created five years ago in South Korea and are currently used in many countries (Japan, USA, Brazil, Russia and Western Europe).
PDO (polydioxanone) is a potent synthetic fibre, consisting of one filament (monofilament) or two filaments twisted solid (poly-filament) which dissolve after a certain time in the tissue.
Polydioxanone is a material known and used in medicine for many years. So far, it was mainly used for the production of subcutaneous and skin sutures, which were used in plastic surgery, gastroenterology, urology, gynaecology and ophthalmology.
This material meets all the requirements set by the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) in relation to surgical sutures and has a high safety profile.
Dr Gabriela Mercik was the first doctor in the UK and Ireland to use PDO threads for aesthetic treatments, which then she introduced to both markets.
The story on how it came to be was published in Aesthetic Medicine magazine many years ago.
Then she proceeded to design a unique trademarked protocol, which was her own technique for PDO threads treatments. Dr Gabriela has spread her knowledge and taught over 300 clinics since 2011.
PDO threads can be used to perform a non-surgical face lift, eye lift, cheeks and jaw line lift and neck lift and décolletage. PDO nose reshaping by threads is an alternative option to nose job (rhinoplasty), without a surgery and downtime afterwards.
Threads can be used to treat bingo wings and to tighten the waist, slim the legs or tights.
To show her prowess with the PDO threads, Dr Gabriela intends to introduce something completely new and unheard of – a treatment called ‘invisible bra’.
The cost of PDO threads is high if the treatment is done properly, as one or three threads will not create the proper lifting. Forget about cheap PDO liftings, as they will not provide the desired effect.
In the Dr. Gabriela Clinic, you pay for results and not for how many PDO threads were used during the procedure. Additionally, the treatment is divided into two parts to achieve better, long-lasting results.
Safety is critical for us, hence we registered with CQC to provide top care to our patients and improve the quality of our service.
Dr Gabriela has travelled around the world for many years, to show her results and techniques to other professionals like surgeons, doctors, dentists, and nurses.
Dr Gabriela will resume providing courses for doctors and nurses starting next year.
This year Dr Gabriela has proudly opened another branch of Dr. Gabriela Clinic, in Poland.
Before coming to have a PDO threads treatment done, you will need a consultation with Dr Gabriela. Additionally, you will need to hydrate your skin with our designer Dr. Gabriela Magic Serum and Magic Rain created specifically for PDO treatments by Dr Gabriela herself. Hydration improves and helps new collagen to be created in your skin and is essential to provide astounding, long-lasting results after the treatment.
When you decide to come and have a PDO treatment with the most experienced doctor in the UK and Ireland, just give a ring to our clinic, book an appointment and we will look after you and your skin.
PDO Thread – is placed in a sterile, very thin needle, with which we introduce it into specified area of the facial skin, neck, breasts, buttocks, abdomen and legs.
Based on clinical observations, it was found that polydioxanone stimulates tissue neocolagenesis process – that stimulates the production of new collagen – the protein responsible for the tension and firmness of the skin. In addition, stimulation of fibroblasts results in stimulating the synthesis of elastin – the protein responsible for skin firmness and elasticity. In vivo, it was also found that the effect of polydioxanone causes the synthesis of natural (endogenous) hyaluronic acid.
Through this mechanism the skin, in which we introduce a PDO thread becomes firmer, elastic and moisturised.
The PDO thread introduction technology is based on using the natural skin tension lines, which also causes an effect similar to a surgical facelift.
Thanks to the PDO threads, we can also limit the strength of facial muscles and get the aesthetic effects close to of administration of botulinum toxin – muscle relaxation and smooth facial features. The aesthetic effect is more natural than after administration of botulinum toxin because it does not fix mimic muscles in place, but only affects them by weakening their effect.
The neocolagenesis is caused by the introduction of PDO threads, which pictures below show in scale of the electron microscope:
By introducing the PDO thread in the skin, we get immediate improvement in its appearance. After about 10-14 days, begins the synthesis with the body’s natural proteins (collagen and elastin). This process continues throughout the period of maintaining the threads in the body (up to 240 days). The resulting aesthetic effects persist typically up to 24 months.
When using the thread, we are strengthening the influence on the sagging tissue. Due to the rapid absorption of thread, there is no risk of thickening and scarring, as it happens in cases of using large diameter fibres and threads with long period of biodegradation (over a year).
Lifting PDO thread is a treatment dedicated primarily for patients aged 30-65 years.
The treatment effects are:
• Skin rejuvenation
• Smoothing wrinkles
• Narrowing the pores
• Skin Lightening
• Increase or decrease the volume (depending on the technique of implantation)
• Lifting the skin
The main indications for the use of PDO threads are:
On the face:
• Vertical and horizontal forehead wrinkles
• Forehead, reduced outer edges of the eyebrows, slender, soft tissue, drooping eyebrows
• Lower eyelid – bags
• Clear nasal-labial folds
• The groove buccal-zygomatic
• Tuck chin
• The puppet fold
• Drooping cheeks and the area under the lower jaw
• Folds of skin on the cheek
• Wrinkled cheeks
On the body:
• The folds and wrinkles of the skin on the neck and décolleté
• Breast firming and shaping,
• Sagging tissue and stretch marks on the buttocks, abdomen, arms and legs
• Insensitive skin and subcutaneous tissue
(especially after liposuction)
• Obesity – arms, abdomen, ribs
• Alopecia (assisted surgery in addition to administration of PRP)
Improvement of skin firmness and tightness around the knees and elbows
The procedure usually takes 30 – 60 minutes and is practically painless. Patients on whom I performed the treatment, stated that the discomfort associated with the procedure is much lesser than in case when the hyaluronic acid is administered. Additionally, you can perform local anaesthesia by using an aesthetic cream.
Then you should identify points of entry for the needle and thread input lines under the skin.
